We pay thousands of dollars to buy jewelry that looks appealing to us, and get so obsessed with it, we never want to take it off. Now that’s great use for your money, however, what tends to happen is our daily chores leave our jewelry looking old and discoloured. This blog post will help in cleaning and maintaining your jewelry so it looks new, even after everyday use.
This is very easy, and can be done at home so you’re not wasting more money getting it polished elsewhere.
All you need is the following:
- Warm water
- Cotton balls or swabs
- Mild dish-washing detergent
- Cotton cloth
- A gold polishing cloth
First, mix mild dish-washing detergent in warm water to create a solution. Then, soak the gold in the solution for a few minutes, just long enough to allow the solution to begin to work. Once you feel it may be ready for the next step, rub gently with cotton balls or your fingers. Cotton swabs may be used for smaller, more intricate areas. You may not notice a difference in shine at this point, but this step is to ensure gold is clean before being polished. Next, lay your gold on the cloth and let it dry. The final step is the most important, restore shine with the gold polishing cloth. Be sure to turn the cloth frequently so you’re always using a clean spot.
If your jewelry has stones or other valuables set on it, you may want to take it to the professionals, to make sure no damage is done to the jewelry.
