The Financial Side of the Eclipse

by JasonLast updated Apr 8, 2024Category: Finance / World

In anticipation of the eclipse today, tourists from all over the world are flocking over to catch a glimpse of this one in a lifetime event. And with all those added visiters, that means added revenue and spending as a result.

The U.S is expecting a $6 billion boost during this event, attributed to the increased spending for hotels, gas, restaurants, and more. The Mayor of Niagara Falls, Jim Diodati, stated that they're expecting up to a million visitors for this event. So many that there was a state of emergency called to prepare for this event. The eclipse could cause issues such as; traffic jams, cell service overloads, and delays in emergency responses.

During the eclipse, many will be tempted to spend more on overpriced goods and services. Whether they be necessities such as foods or rent, or non-necessities such as eclipse merchandise. And while this may be good for the economy, it won't be for your pocket.
